Skin Care and the Beauty Product Makeup Tips
If you are not already using routines for your skins care then you need to know a few basic makeup tips that will help you in selecting one that is right for you.
Cleansers:
The reason we use a cleanser is to thoroughly cleanse skins of impurities and
help to restore a skins natural balance. A cleanser will get deep down into
the pores to gently lift and cleanse skins. There are different types of
cleansers to consider, depending on your skin type.
With dry skins it is often better to use a cream cleanser. You may use a milk
type one if you prefer.
With oily skins you may prefer a grainy type of cleanser. Always use an oil free
one or even a milk one. I don’t recommend a cream one unless it is one
specifically for oily skins.
If your skin is slightly sensitive always use a fragrance and alcohol free cleanser.
With very sensitive skins you should consult with a dermatologist to get advise
on the best type of care to use on your skin. Never ever apply make up to
dirty skin and it will not only look dull but also will built up excessive oils
and more dirt and grime.
Refreshers/Toners: A toner is used after cleansing to remove any traces of make
up, dirt and grime from skins. It not only helps to tone skins but it
keeps skins look clear and fresh.
If you have dry skin then a mild toner is the best to use.
With oily skins an astringent is a better toner to use. This usually contains
alcohol which will not only stimulate skins but also closes the pores.
With sensitive skins then a gentle unscented refresher is the one for you.
Masks: A mask is a must as it not only exfoliates the dead skin
cells but it also hydrates the skin and leaves it feeling soft and moisturized.
If you have normal to dry skin then you mainly only need a mask once or twice a week.
If you have oily skin then you will need an exfoliating mask which can be used daily if
you have excessively oily skin with large pores as the mask will not only help
to reduce the oils but also helps to close the pores again.
With sensitive skins, once again, always use an unscented product and use
sparingly about once a week.
Moisturizers: A moisturizer is used to moisturize and protect your skin. It
is always recommended that you use one daily as it also replenishes the moisture loss.
There are different moisturizers that do different jobs. We use a lighter based one for
daytime and a slightly heavier one for night time. These often contain very
different ingredients that work in various ways.
With dry skins use one that is also an emollient as this will also replenish the
loss of the skins oil.
With oily skins, you need to use an oil controlling one that will also help to
restore the natural skins balance.
With sensitive skins then you should use a light one that is unscented. You
should always use a daytime moisturizer that contains a sun protectant in it and
always use under your make up as not only will it improve your skin but it will
help to protect it from the damaging effects of the sun.
Eye Cream: It is a very good idea to get into the habit of using an eye cream as we need to protect the
very delicate area around the eyes. The skin around your eyes is the most
sensitive and delicate skin on your face and should be treated accordingly. We
always show our age around this area first and so we need to look after it from
very early on in life. Always pat the product around the eyes and gently pat in.
Never stretch or pull the skin around your eyes Always remove any mascara and/or
eye makeup at night time or else you will wake up not only having very heavy
feeling eyes, but you will be prematurely aging this area.
Foundation: Using a foundation or make up base is probably one of the
most important products in your skins routine. A lot of people do not use
foundation as they either don’t know how to apply it or mistakenly believe that
it is not good for skins.
Make up is very good for skins, as long as you remove it before going to bed at
night. Make up not only moisturizes skins but it protects at the same
time by keeping dirt and grime out. Also by using a foundation with a sun
protectant in it, you will also help to protect skins against the sun’s
harmful rays.
Always use a base that is the right color for your complexion. To get the correct
shade, blend a little foundation into your jaw line and test the colour with
your own skin tone. Never test the color on the back of your hand as your hand
is nothing like the skin on your face and neck. Once you have chosen the correct
shade make sure that you are using the right one for your skin type.
With normal to dry skins, use a moisturizing one.
With oily skin always use an oil controlling or oil free base.
With sensitive skins, make sure that it is hypo allergenic and preferably unscented.
When using make up base, never go too heavy when applying this and a good idea is to
get into the habit of using a sea sponge to apply it with. Not only will you get
a nicer coverage but you will not get any nasty tell tale lines around the jaw
line. Nothing looks worse that seeing where the make up finishes. This can also
be avoided by choosing the correct shade for your skin tone. Always cleanse and
moisturise each day as if you don’t then your left on make up will clog the
pores as well as cause blackheads. Skins will also become dull as well as
feel dry and flaky.
Just to recap on your skin care routine; you should always cleanse, tone and use a night
cream or lotion moisturiser and eye cream at night time.
In the morning you should cleanse, tone, a mask if required, moisturise, including an
eye cream and then your make up base and any colours you wish to add.
This simple routine only takes a few minutes each day but your reward for following
it will be healthy, glowing skin with less noticeable lines and wrinkles. You
will start to receive compliments about how good your skin is looking so it is
definitely worth keeping up your skin care routine. Lastly, the most important
thing that you can do for your skin is to keep out of the sun, always use
products with sun protectants and drink lots of water, especially in the summer
months to hydrate the skin.
